How to Connect to the Internet

To connect to the Internet, you need the following:

  • Computer
  • Internet Service Provider (ISP)

Internet Service Providers are companies that give you access to the Internet, much like how a phone company gives you access to your telephone plan. Companies such as America Online, Cox, EarthLink, MediaCom and Qwest are examples of Internet Service Providers.

Most ISP's will allow you to connect with dial-up which means you will use your telephone line to access the Internet.

Other ISP's have the option for broadband (cable or DSL), which allow you high speed access. Broadband is significantly faster than dial-up and will not tie up your phone line.
