The Apache Junction Public Library will no longer charge daily overdue fines on late materials beginning August 3, 2020.
“We want everyone in the community to have full access to all that we offer. This is a great time to return your overdue items and rediscover the library,” said Apache Junction Library Director Pam Harrison. “Of course, you are still responsible for returning your items so others can use them.”
The library will continue to send reminders for the return of items.
Existing overdue fines will be cleared from all accounts but fees for lost or damaged items will remain on your account. Patrons owing more than $5 for lost or damaged items will not be able to borrow library materials until fees are paid or lost items are returned.
Items that are overdue 100 days or more will be considered lost and patrons will be billed for them. If the items are returned, the billed charges will be cleared from the account with no overdue fines.
If unreturned items total more than $81, the account will be referred to a collection agency and an additional $10 fee will be added to the account.
The elimination of the overdue fines was approved by the Library Board on June 18, 2020.
