The library offers book talks and a summer reading program for our adult patrons.

The library is adding its holdings to a five state regional network used
by participating libraries for borrowing and lending materials.
ARIZONA COLLECTION
The
library has a special collection of books on Arizona
including materials on the Superstition
Mountains and the Lost
Dutchman's Mine.In addition, the library has a
reserve collection and a database of information on
the Superstition Mountains.

BOOK NOOK
Discarded donations of used books and magazines may be purchased from
the Friends of the Library.
BOOKS ON TAPE AND CD
The library has a selection of abridged and unabridged books on audiocassette and CD.
In addition, the library has talking
books available for the blind.

CHILDREN'S SERVICES
Besides
the books, DVDs, videocassettes
and other audiovisual materials, the library offers
preschool and toddler story hours, school visits,
class tours, book talks, movies, special programs,
Play and Learn Workshop, and the Summer Reading Program. Contact

COMPUTER CLASSES
The Apache Junction Public Library is proud to offer a variety of entry and advanced level computer classes covering some of the most popular areas of computer usage. ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT INFORMATION
CENTER (EDIC)
The Apache Junction Public Library is an EDIC (Economic Development Information
Center), a statewide program geared to the needs of the community. We
maintain a core collection on economic development that includes information
on business basics, economic development in Arizona, demographics, marketing,
finances, and "how-to" materials aimed at small business.

FINES
Books and audio books are 10 cents per day per item. Videos, DVDs, Backpacks, Interlibrary Loan books and Seven
Day Reference items are $1.00 per day late fee. There is a $3.00 fine
for videos or DVDs returned in the outside bookdrop.

GOVERNMENT DOCUMENTS
Apache Junction has been designated a Federal Depository
Library. The Federal Register, Code of Federal Regulations,
Commerce Business Daily, U.S. Code, National Trade
Data Bank, and many other government publications

INTERLIBRARY
LOAN SERVICES
Books not owned by the Apache Junction Public Library may be borrowed
from other libraries. There is a limit of 6 requests at any one time. If an item is not picked up, a $1.00 fee will be assessed.
INTERNET
The library is the gateway to the information highway. As technology
develops, so will public access to worldwide information resources. The
library provides public access to the Internet.
The Library also offers wireless services.

LARGE PRINT BOOKS
The library has a large selection of popular fiction and non-fiction
books available in large print.
LIBRARY CARDS
Cards are free to all residents of Apache Junction and Pinal County.Winter residents that plan on remaining in this area
for at least one month from date of application may also apply for a free
card.
LITERACY PROGRAM
You can study online at www.pbs.org/literacy and take a sample exam
through our databases at www.ajcity.net/ajpldb.htm (go to Education & Careers and then Learn A Test). GED examinations are $65.00 at Central
Arizona College, Apache Junction (480) 288-4008 and Mesa Community College,
Mesa (480) 461-7480.
The library also sponsors the RIF (Reading Is Fundamental) program for
children and young adults.
LOAN PERIOD
Three
weeks for books, CDs, audio books and nonfiction videos;
seven days for current Bestsellers, children's backpacks and entertainment videos
and DVDs.

MAGAZINES, NEWSPAPERS
We
have over 100 magazine titles covering a variety of
interests. We also receive the local newspapers, the
Wall Street Journal and USA Today. The library has
comprehensive indexing and abstracts for over 800
magazines. In addition, the library has the Arizona
Republic on CD-ROM. There is a charge of 25 cents
per page printed.
MICROFORM READER
The microform reader/printer is available for materials on microfilm
and microfiche. There is a charge of 25 cents per page printed.

PHOTOCOPYING
The self-service photocopy machine is located in the main library area. Black and white copies
are 10 cents for 8 1/2 x 11 sheets, and 15 cents for 11 x 17. Color copies
are 1.00 dollar for 8 1/2 x 11 sheets, and $1.50 for 11 x 17.The machine
has enlarging and reducing capability.

REFERENCE SERVICES
Reference service is available at the Reference Desk or
by telephone. Encyclopedias, business directories, and investment information
are all available.
RESERVATION OF MATERIALS
You may request to be put on a waiting list for popular items or books
that are checked out, and we will telephone you as soon as the item is
available. There is a limit of 6 reserves at a time.

STUDY ROOMS
The library has two private study rooms available for students. Students
signed up for the literacy program have priority.
T
TALKING BOOKS
Books on cassette are available for those who are unable to see. The
State Library provides tapes and machines by direct mail at no charge,
but back-ups are available at the library. Regular abridged and unabridged
books on tape and CD are also
available.
TAX FORMS
Reproducible Arizona and Federal tax forms are available

TOURS

TYPEWRITER
There is a typewriter available for use at the Library. Paper is not provided so you must bring your own.

VIDEOCASSETTES
The library has an excellent collection of 'how to' and PBS videos. We
also have a solid collection of classic, travel, children's and popular
films on videocassette.
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Shelving, literacy
tutoring, working at the Book
Nook desk, or helping with children's story hours
and programs are just a few of the opportunities available
to volunteers.

YOUNG ADULT SERVICES
We
have paperbacks, hardbacks, and magazines for junior
high and high school students. Services include summer
films, book talks, game nights, poetry readings, class
visits, tours, and volunteer opportunities.

WORD PROCESSING
Computers
with printer are available for public use. There is
a printing charge of 25 cents per black and white
page and $1.00 per color page.
