THE PLAN

Goal:  People of all ages will have access to collections of popular titles and current topics so they can stay abreast of the latest in popular reading, media, and information.

Objective:  Each year 90% of the parents or caregivers who bring children to the Library and complete a survey will state the Library plays an important role in helping children develop a love of reading and learning.

Goal:  All ages will have the personal assistance they need to find the information resources that will help answer their questions on a broad array of topics.

Objective:  During 2004/05 the receiving, cataloging,and processing of new bestsellers will improve from a 3 day to a 2 day turnaround 70% of the time.

Objective:  During a selected month in the 2005/06
fiscal year 90% of the parents who attend storytime programs will rate the programs as "good" or "excellent."

Objective:  During 2004/05, monthly displays of  current topics will be considered successful if the public checks out at least 80% of the items.

Objective:  In 2004/05, 80% of the patrons completing a survey during a reference count week will indicate that they received what they wanted/needed from the Reference Desk.

Goal:  Apache Junction Public Library patrons will have the Library facilities they need that provide access to General Information Resources, Lifelong Learning, and Current Topics and Titles.

Objective:  During a selected week in 2005/06, 75% of the people surveyed who are checking-out materials from the Spanish collection will say they rate the Spanish language collection as "good" or "excellent."

Objective:  During 2004/05, staff will create four newsletters, each highlighting collections, information, and events at the Library.  Each issue will be distributed to a minimum of 500 individuals per  quarter.

Objective:  During 2006/07, 60% of the young adults who are registered in the Teen Summer Reading Program and complete a survey will say they rate the young adult collection as "good" or "excellent."

ObjectiveDuring a selected week in 2005/06, 80% of people surveyed will indicate they received information they requested from the youth services desk.

Representative activities:

Objective:  By the end of 2006/07 the number of times the Library's periodical database was accessed will increase by at least 10% over the number of times it was accessed in 2005/06. 

Circulation staff will generate a quarterly newsletter including articles from Reference and Youth        Services that will be disseminated to interested individuals at the Library, Chamber of Commerce, and on the Library website.

Each year Youth Services staff will purchase multiple copies of the most popular titles and series read by teens.

Goal:  Preschool children and their parents or caregivers will have the programs and books that will help the preschoolers develop reading readiness.

Youth Services staff will develop four bibliographies on frequently requested topics of interest to juvenile patrons or their parents.

Objective: During 2005/06, 80% of people responding to a survey after attending a class on computers at the Library will indicate that their confidence in their ability to use computers has increased.

ObjectiveBetween 2003/04 and 2004/05 the circulation of board books, easy books and beginning reader books will increase by 5%.
